RESILIENT

Able to withstand, recover or bounce back quickly when you are facing something or going through a rough patch. RESILIENT! Not only my word for the semester but this powerful word explains who I am and what I stand for to the core. It's literally tattooed on my left forearm. It's there for me to look at and remind myself that I'm built for this, day in and day out.

Being resilient comes within, it's like being bulletproof. You don't let things affect you or you don't show weakness very easily. You work and live through grace and faith. Resilient relates in literacy in multiple ways. As an ELA/Writing teacher, resilient can have several meanings. I work with students from low socioeconomic backgrounds and I preach to them everyday that, I know in fact that you despise and dislike reading but I will make it relatable and fun, I just need you to meet me halfway. I give them tough love and they give me effort in return. I want my students to know that everyday that they step in the classroom, they have to be RESILIENT.

When they step into this world, they have to be RESILIENT! I have to prepare them for the real world and in order to do that you must have tough skin in the classroom because the things that you don't want to do and I push you to do, is going to make you a better, knowledgeable scholar in the end. I will keep this word in mind during the semester when I am feeling overwhelmed. Being a fulltime teacher while being a fulltime grad student is very demanding, sometimes it gets overwhelming but at the end of the day, I know that this will help me excel in my career. Be Resilient.
